Hereford High School Alumni Association Newsletter E-Newsletter
December 1, 2006

Dear Hereford Alumni,

I wanted to make you all aware of a couple of newsworthy items of late. It is not often that those of us living outside of Hereford and the Panhandle of Texas are privy to news from our hometown. However, whenever news breaks outside of the the Panhandle and reaches across the state, I get excited! First, I wanted to congratulate the Hostile Herd in their valiant effort in the Class 4A Area Playoffs that took place last Saturday in Odessa, Texas. The game ended with a loss for the Whitefaces at the hands of the El Paso Chapin Huskies as the high-scoring affair ended at 53-50. As a spectator, I have never witnessed such an amazing high school football game as the one I saw last weekend. Hats off to the spectacular play of Casey Page, Hereford's outstanding quarterback who accounted for most of Hereford's 640 yards.

Secondly, let us not forget that Hereford's Lady Whitefaces are 4A State Champions in Cross Country for the second straight year! Coming from one who ran cross country at West Texas State way back in the early seventies, who threw up after every race, and vowed never to punish my body that way again...I say, hats off to you, Lady Whitefaces!

And lastly, as I was at the Goodyear Tire Store in Bedford, Texas on Thursday morning "winterizing" my car, I spotted a copy of the Fort Worth Star- Telegram on the coffee table in the waiting room. There on the front page was an article, "Radio's Old Philosopher" and a photo of Hereford's own Clint Formby of radio station KPAN. The subtitle of the article by the Star- Telegram's David Casstevens read, "Station owner has longest-running one-man show". To be honest, I had actually planned this e-newsletter next week to announce the launching of the alumni association's new web site which is currently under construction. But real news cannot wait and with these tidbits of information, I am writing to you with a great deal of pride about my hometown...a week sooner than later.

If you're like me then you grew up listening to KPAN Radio in Hereford, Texas. So I couldn't believe it when I ran across this rather large, front-page article in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram this morning featuring Hereford's own Clint Formby. It's not often that something about or someone from Hereford makes national news. National news, you ask? Well, sort of. You see, when you consider that big-city market newspapers like the Star-Telegram or the Dallas Morning News sometimes intersect with national news organizations like the Associated Press and Reuters...you've got national news.

You'll want to take a few minutes to read the article that is linked below. Afterall, how many people can say that they've actually met the man who has the longest- running one-man morning radio show in America! (From the Editor - Lee Mays)

Under Construction: Alumni Association's New Web Site To Offer More Pages, New Features

With the success of the Hereford Alumni 2006 Multi- Class Reunion held last July in Grapevine, Texas, some new and exciting changes to the alumni association's web site are in the works. The site, which is currently being renovated and undergoing consturction, is growing from six to ten pages. Here are some of the new pages that are being added to the site:

PHOTOS - Five photo galleries with approximately 60 photos from last summer's reunion. There's also group photos of the alumni reunion's planning committee as they met during 2005 and 2006.

MEMORIALS - A separate page for deceased classmates for the "I Will Remember You" memorials. Listen online to the beautiful rendition of Hereford High's Alma Mater performed by The McCampbells of Dallas. This group of talented young people performed at the Hereford Alumni 2006 Multi- Class Reunion held last summer in Grapevine.

COMMENTS - We've selected some of the many comments and responses submitted to our web- based email from your friends, classmates, and schoolmates on this page.

NEWSLETTERS - This page will have all of the newsletters sent out from the association's beginning to the most recent.

HERD STUFF - Golf shirts, baseball caps, the 2006 Memory Book, the Photo CD & DVD, and the NEW mug can be seen on this page. The site will soon offer credit card payments though a secure e- commerce set up. In other words, payments can be made directly online via a shopping cart.

SPONSORS - Not a new page but new sponsors will be able advertise on the alumni web site while showing their support for the association and it's efforts by purchasing ad space that will run for a period of 12 months.

After Months Of Delays And Cost Overruns, The Reunion's Memory Book Is Finally Complete!

Okay, if you attended the Hereford Alumni 2006 Multi- Class Reunion in Grapevine and/or ordered the reunion's Memory Book and have wondered, "when is that thing gonna be finished"? Well, wonder no longer. Yes, we 'bit off more than we could chew' but the chewing is done and it was well worth it! Since last summer's all-school reunion in Grapevine, Texas was the first one in the history of Hereford's alumni community on such a grand scale, some of the committee's responsibilities and the degree of difficulty in pulling them off were greatly underestimated. The 120-page Memory Book, which consists of reunion photos and alumni biographies, is finally complete.

If you live in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and have a Memory Book on order, you can expect your copy to be hand delivered to you in the next few days. Since the book weighs almost 2 pounds, it is cheaper to hand deliver wherever possible. If you live outside the DFW area then give it a week or so. Receiving your Memory Book at this time of the year makes a wonderful Christmas present!

Wanted to attend the all-school reunion in Grapevine last summer but just couldn't make it? Then order the reunion photo CD, the reunion DVD slide show, and/or alumni reunion Memory Book by calling Lee at 1-817-267-2608.

Alumni Reunion Attendees Offers Insight On When And Where Of Next All-School Reunion

Shortly after the Hereford Alumni 2006 Multi-Class Reunion was held in Grapevine, Texas on July 14-15, 2006, a post-event survey was sent out to all who attended. Reunion attendees were asked about all aspects of the reunion which included the quality of food, the wait-staff service, the entertainment, etc. And because of the reunion's tremendous success, a looming question on almost everyone's mind was when and where might the next all-school event take place.

The results of that survey will be revealed in our next alumni newsletter but in the meantime, tell us what you think if you were not able to attend the Grapevine event. Email your response to info@herefordalumni.com.

Hats Off to Casey Page & the Hostile Herd in Area Playoff Battle

It was a Texas high school football playoff game but it seemed more like a college BCS bowl game. No, it didn't seem like a high school playoff game nor a BCS bowl game but resembled an all-out war. Yes, a war is the best way to describe the game that saw 10 lead changes in the Class 4A Division II playoffs at Ratliff Field in Odessa, Texas against the Huskies of El Paso Chapin and your Hereford Whitefaces on Saturday, November 25, 2006. The scoring between the two teams went back and forth for three quarters and well into the final quarter. Finally, the game was on the line with seconds to play in the fourth quarter as the Herd marched down to Chapin's 4 yard line when to clock ran out. The final score: Chapin 53, Hereford 50.

Hereford's senior quarterback, Casey Page, put up some unbelievable stats in that he rushed for 308 yards and score four touchdowns. Along with those incredible number of rushing yards, Casey passed for 322 yards and three touchdowns. Casey's favorite receiver was senior wide receiver, Colby Marsh, who scored two touchdown passes of 10 and 32 yards.

On Page's outstanding performance, Hereford's head coach, Don DeLozier, was quoted by the Amarillo Globe News as saying, "that was an unbelievable performance from an unbelievable kid. He has prepared himself so well for so long to play this way. You can't say enough about the effort he puts in during the course of the week to get ready."

Many Whiteface football fans have been fortunate to see another outstanding Hereford alum reach the spotlight in the ranks of collegiate quarterbacks. That athlete was none other than Cody Hodges (Class of 2000). Cody played for the Red Raiders of Texas Tech last year (2005) and, during his senior year, was the talk of the town and the nation. It's going to be exciting to watch and see how far Hereford's newest rising star, Casey Page, will go as he enters college. We're all looking forward to great things in the future.
