| A Message From Stan Sigman: Cingular Wireless President/CEO And Hereford Class Of 65 Alumnus |
 |
|
I appreciate the opportunity to let everyone from
Hereford High School know what I've been doing
since my graduation. I've included my formal
corporate biography, but also want to send you a
few words from my heart.
My West Texas roots go pretty deep. I was born in
Lubbock, lived in Tahoka, grew up in Hereford, and
married my high school sweetheart, Gerry Lynn
Wheeler. My brother, Steve, and sister, D'Shaun,
went to Hereford and graduated from Texas Tech. I
went to West Texas State.
My career began in Hereford in 1965 where I was a
stockman and janitor for what we then called
Southwestern Bell Telephone. My early assignments
kept me pretty close to home, and I worked in
Monahans, Floydada, Amarillo, Midland, and Lubbock.
I've traveled a bit since then, but everything I ever
needed to know I learned here in West Texas. Work
hard. Let your word - and your handshake - be
your bond. Never seek or settle for second best.
And, most importantly, take care of people and
they'll take care of you.
These are the values I grew up with, and they are
my values now. As we used to say, "It's where I'm
coming from." It's also "Where I'm going to." Though
I spend most of my time in Atlanta these days, I
have a ranch in Hondo, and Texas will always be my
home.

that the reunion registration fee of $100 per person
ends and increases to $125 per person on

| "EMERSON 4": From Past To Present - Hereford Business Phone Numbers You Still Need To Know |
 |
|
Remember those old rotary telephones? Remember
back in the days when you only needed to dial seven
digits instead of
the ten digits required to call someone today? Back
in the fifties and sixties when the population of
Hereford, Texas was fewer than 7,000 residents, and
things were so much simpler, area codes were non-
existent. Instead, you simply
dialed "Emerson 4" or "E-M-4" on that old rotary
telephone dial, followed by the last four
digits to reach anyone in town.
Nowadays, as a result of the population boom of the
seventies and eighties, you must dial
Hereford's area code which is "8-0-6", plus "3-6-4"
(or "E-M-4"), followed by the last four digits. With
that in mind,
let's say you were interested in moving
back to Hereford - then you would
want to call Marn Tyler, owner of Marn Tyler Realtors
at 806-364-0153 for that new homestead.
For
cleaning supplies for your newly purchased home you
would call David
McDonald (Class of 65), of Macksco Supply,
LLC (formerly Hereford Janitorial Supply) at 806-
364-0517. If you were in the market for a new
Ford car or truck then you would call
Johnny Trotter (Class of 69) or Jana Green
(Class of 79), owners of Whiteface Ford at
806-364-1919. And in your new Ford F-150
you'd probably want a new pair of Justin kickers so
you'd call Thomas Robbins (Class of 96), at
Boots and Saddle Western Wear at 806-364-
5332. That tender side of you would beckon
you to send mom a bouquet of flowers on her special
day so you'd call Terry Sparks (Class of 71)
, at Terry's Floral and Designs at 806-364-
3114. And for reliable local, state, and national
news,
weather, and sports you would listen to Hereford's
KPAN Radio on 860 AM or 106.3 FM. Chip Formby
(Class of 71), is the station's manager and can
be reach at 806-364-1860.
Today you would have to dial three more digits to
reach these fine Hereford businesses by phone than
you would have in the 1950's or 1960's...but that
same
old fashion service and small town hospitality is still
available. For more information on these and other
businesses who are Hereford Alumni 2006 Multi-Class
Reunion sponsors, please click onto the link below.
