“Lee, Jim & I want you to know what a wonderful time we had this past weekend in Grapevine. It was so much fun getting to see old classmates and making new friends from other classes. I just wish everyone could have attended. We are so grateful to you and your wonderful wife for taking this task on. I know it was a lot of work. Since this was our 40th I thank you. If it had not been for all your hard work we would not have had anything. Let me know how I can post something on the web site. I want everyone to know how great you and your wife (Julie) have been. You both are awesome.”

“Hi Lee, Thank you so much for inviting me to the reunion. What a good time was had by all. My head was so large after all of the praise that I could hardly get through the door. Your organizational skills were top notch. What a grand bunch of people!!!! There was alot of love for each other and for band at the meeting. I feel honored to be among you. I hope you do not burn yourself out doing all of that hard work. You must delegate more of the tasks to trusted committee members. If you have e-mails and addresses of the people in attendance, I would love to have a copy.
Stay happy---Life is good!!!”

“Sorry we missed your call on Saturday. Gil and I have made a reservation for the dinner on Saturday and we are bringing my mom, Dorothy Mercer, who graduated I think in 1937 from HHS. She is so excited about coming. She worked for many years as the secretary to the superintendent. See you Saturday evening.”

September 27, 2007 (Regarding the nostalgia of being back in Hereford, Texas once again)
“Lee, I was traveling back from Phoenix, AZ to visit my folks in the South East and had my first occasion to visit Hereford since my graduation in 1979. Boy . . . what a rush of emotion . . . I was fine for a while, but then the memories began to flood back and being the emotional sort that I am, so did the tears (ha) it really hit home that I had 'grown up and a lot older' that's cause enough to cry!. Not having had children, I've never had anyone to 'base' my own age from - but revisiting the old stomping grounds really did it for me! The school hasn't changed a bit, and the principal was overwhelming gracious in showing me around and turning on a few lights here and there for my benefit. It was nice to have roamed the halls in contemplative quiet (as school was out at the time of my visit.)
Thanks for the memories . . . . .”

September 24, 2007 (Regarding Ben Gollehon speaking at the alumni reunion in Grapevine)
“Percy (I just can’t get used to this 'Lee' thing).
I'm so disappointed that I can not attend this event and hear and see Mr. G. He was everything to me that you said he was, and I can still hear his teachings in my professional life today........things like "everyone wants to win, but only a few are willing to do what it takes to be a winner" and "win like a winner and loose like a winner"..... There have been many times during the course of my life when times were tough and things weren't working, and the inspirational teachings of Mr. G were a BIG part of what got me thru it all. He was the one teacher that taught me LIFE and not just music. I hope everyone has a lot of fun and for those of you that were my HHS friends, my email address is jambold@yahoo.com. Hope to hear from some of you. Keep up the good work and hopefully one of these years, I can attend....Its long trip from West Boylston, MA to Grapevine.
PS - due to budget cuts, the schools in my town cut Band......I just can't believe something so important was disregarded so easily......I hate to put it in writing, but I'm glad I grew up in Hereford Texas.
Sincerely,”

August 22, 2007 (Regarding the announcement of Ben Gollehon as speaker at the October 6, 2007 reunion)
“Lee, thanks so much for all of your fine work on this—I’ve enjoyed getting my emails and trying to keep up with everyone. I will try to come, however this is the weekend before the annual Trustee Meeting and normally we are trying to get the last-minute affairs in order. I will know more in the next several weeks about what I will need to do and if some of the work can be delegated. I think Mr. Gallehon is an excellent choice of people to come—I enjoyed reading his bio and I think I would have recognized him if I ran into him somewhere (I’m sure that we would to—I’m sure that we haven’t changed either)…”

“Hi Lee, it's terrific what you are doing to keep HHS alumni in touch. Way to go, man. I graduated from HHS in 1967, and was very active in the band. In fact, I was all-state for two years, and went on to major in music in high school. I
owe a lot to Ben Gollehon. I would love to come to the dinner in October where Ben is speaking, but I play principal French Horn in the orchestra here in Boston, and we have a concert that day. I wonder if you could give me Ben's contact information (e-mail address would do) so I can send him a note.

I sure wish I could commit to this event, but, as the date is smack dab in the middle of Hurricane Season, and I am a Catastrophic Insurance Adjuster, there is absolutely no way that I could commit to being there even within one week of the event. Sorry. I'm sure that all who attend won't be disappointed. Take care and keep up the good work.

All the way from Omaha, Nebraska--I am smiling--the LOVE AND WAR restaurant? As one who still loves language, I am intrigued how the place chose its name! Does anyone have their wedding receptions there? Forgive me, Lee--I am still the daughter of a (HHS) English teacher. Have a great reunion. Wish I could be there.

March 12, 2007 (Regarding frequency of the newsletters as described in March 2007 E-newsletter’s introduction).
I think you do a great job! Personally, I crank out publications and PR events for my profession - and a quarterly is just as effective as a monthly issue. I issue our customer updates every quarter and the company newsletter is monthly just for the fact that I announce every birthday and anniversary on the back page for the upcoming month.
I admire and appreciate the job you do!

GOOD JOB! Sorry to have missed the first HHS alumni reunion last year in Grapevine. Will have to see about this year but would love to come…Our class of '52 is having a reunion in Hereford over Memorial Weekend...We held our 40th in 1992 here in Estes Park with about 72 in attendance…Was fun to hear about the yearbook on E-bay...I am not too computer savvy and look at that website only occasionally ...My hubby, Wayne, graduated in '47 so we have our copies from actually 46, but am missing one -- not sure of what year -- but will have to keep that source in mind. Who are your contacts for the classes of 1947, 1947 and 1952?
Thanks for all your good deeds...look forward to meetin' ya one of these days.”

"God has richly blessed me with my four children. Brandon (1991), Travis(1993), Kristina(1995), and Laurie(1996). I am very busy as a single father of four working midnight shift at water treatment plant at Lake Belton. I enjoy raising my kids as this is my calling from God. He gives me strength spiritually and physically each day to complete this calling in a manner that is pleasing to Him. I believe that when my kids are grown my next calling will probably be to join the Salvation Army. My kids and I volunteer time with local chapter and Travis and I each play trumpet for Temple Salvation Army on occasion. God Bless each of you and hope to make the 40th reunion. That would be my first. Better late than never. Feel free to call anytime as I would enjoy visiting with the old gang".

“An old school friend of mine sent this (alumni e-newsletter) to me to read. I thought I would send you an email telling you how much I loved reading about what you wrote…So it was interesting to see what he had to say about Hereford. Made me homesick but thanks for reminding me about Hereford…was interesting to hear about Clint Formby. My Grandmother lived right across the street form KPAN radio station. I remember many years listening to him at her house. Spent all summer, sick days & snow days at her house. So I remember the voice all too well. Hope everyone else likes this too. I think it will be good. I have joined your mailing list so keep it coming. Love hearing about things back home that my Mother can't remember to tell me when I call home”.

I had my own evening radio show playing classical music, and called it "Tyler Thompson's Twilight Tunes". Clint was a good friend of my dad, Bill Thompson, who was manager of the Chamber of Commerce in Hereford from 1958 - 1972.”

"…I am a legal secretary in downtown Houston and obviously am at the computer most of the time. My husband is an electrical supervisor with Aramark and I have a 14-year-old daughter who will be in high school next year. Yes, I know I'm old enough to be her grandmother but I'm not and as long as there is hair dye, I stand a fighting chance. Hopefully, I can participate this year. Thanks to all of you for working so very hard to keep the Hereford Whiteface spirit going."

"…My husband and I have acquired the donut shop here and have added BBQ meals at lunch and supper. Our business is called C & L's Doughnuts, BBQ and more. My oldest daughter, Michelle Sooter is doing the cakes and doing a great job with them. So, if you need a doughnut, a special occasion cake or cookies, or a BBQ meal or feast we do catering also. Our business phone is 806-298-4081."

"I am so glad you have taken this project on. My husband graduated from Dimmit and they had a very small version of this last year in Dallas. We had a great time and plan on doing it again in San Antonio. Thank you again!"

"What a great idea to have a multi-class reunion! I love the website too. Thanks for the invitation, but I will not be able to attend this year. I know everyone will have a great time getting together with friends from HHS. Enjoy!"

"Hi Lee,
Thank you for the information. I would love to see all of you people again, but that is the same weekend of the Texas Bandmasters Convention in San Antonio, and I am chairman of a committee that requires my attendance. Please keep me on your list for further reunions. It is hard to think of Percy Mays as Lee, but I never liked Bennie Bob (I grew up with that handle) either. I hope to see you later."

"I graduated in '68. I have never received a notice of a reunion although my mother still lives in the same address. I was only gone from the Hereford area for about 10 years--have been back 15 yrs. I was visiting my mother and picked up the Hereford Brand and saw the news article so I thought I would contact you."
Thanks,

"Hey, guys half the fun of a reunion is to be where you graduated. You really are industrious and my hats off to ya but count me and Barbie out on the out of town trips to Dallas, etc…"

January 28, 2006 (Regarding the multi-class reunion)
"I graduated in 1946, and my wife of 60 years (Johny Sexton Sowell) graduated with the class of 1947. We have attended a few class reunions; but the attendance continues to drop. We would probably be interested in a reunion of this type."
